Signs You Have Digital Eye Strain

Digital eye strain can present in many different ways. If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms and spend a lot of time using digital devices, then you may have digital eye strain:

  • Headaches
  • Burning eyes
  • Tired eyes
  • Red eyes
  • Trouble focusing or switching gaze
  • Blurry vision
  • Double vision
  • Twitching eyelids
  • Neck and shoulder pain

How to Prevent Digital Eye Strain

The best way to prevent digital eye strain to give your eyes a break from digital devices. Assuming you need to use a computer for school or work, however, the next best thing you can do is rest your eyes regularly. Once every 20 minutes, make sure you take a break for 20 seconds and look at something 20 feet away.

Blue light glasses contain lenses that are designed to help filter out blue light. Also known as computer glasses, they help to reduce glare to help reduce discomfort caused by digital devices. Blue light glasses are available with your prescription as well, if you require glasses for near vision.

Desk ergonomics is changing the way your desk is arranged to minimize impact on your eyes and body. Make sure your desk set-up allows you to face your computer directly and that the top of your screen is at eye level or slightly below. Your chair needs to be supportive and allow you to keep your neck in-line with your torso. Finally, ensure your elbows are close to your body and your computer mouse is in a place where you don’t have to reach for it.
